The 1 day Uganda gorilla tour is an extra-ordinary gorilla package designed for those of you with limited time or on budget gorilla safari to also be part of the magical encounter with a group of mountain gorillas while they are in their natural habitat. This package involves border crossing from Rwanda via Katuna to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you will trek mountain gorillas. Your trip begins and ends in Kigali which is about 3 to 4 hours’ drive journey.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is surrounded by three districts; Kabale, Kisoro and Kanungu in Southwestern Uganda, approximately 8-10 hours away from Kampala and 3 to 4 hours’ drive from Kigali Rwanda. This national park was gazetted in 1991 and in 1994, it was set as a UNESCO Heritage Site. Bwindi National Park expands about 331 square kilometers, featuring largely a tropical rainforest where half of all the 1004 endangered mountain gorillas that remain on planet earth, chimpanzees, L’Hoest monkeys, African elephants, 360 bird species and many more.

Detailed itinerary of 1 day Uganda gorilla tour

Get up early in the morning to prepare and later, begin your 3 to 4-hour journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Drive via Katuna border through Kabale and finally get to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park headquarters for a briefing on guidelines for gorilla trekking. The park official will allocate to you a gorilla family to trek in a group of about 8 visitors. The actual gorilla trek normally begins at 8:00 am and you will be accompanied by a park ranger guide and trackers. In case you have heavy luggage, you will be joined by porters.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park consists of 20 habituated gorilla families that can be trekked in Buhoma, Rushaga, Nkuringo or Ruhija region. They include Mucunguzi, Kutu, Rwigi, Bikingi, Bweza, Nkuringo, Christmas, Bushaho family, Mukiza, Bitukura, Kyaguriro, Oruzogo, Mubare, Katwe, Rushegura, Habinyanja group, Nshongi, Mishaya, Kahungye, Busingye.
A complete gorilla trek in Bwindi can last you about 2 to 6 hours and once you come across a gorilla family, you are given one hour of magical encounter. Later, you return to meet your tour leader at a point where you set off to trek gorillas and drive back to Kigali.
