Detailed itinerary of 4 Days Mount Elgon Hiking Safari

Day 1: Drive to Mount Elgon National Park

You will be picked from the Hotel by our Driver/guide for a journey to Mount Elgon National Park. This Protected Area is the home to Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano straddled on the Uganda-Kenya border and boasts of numerous Caves, waterfalls, gorges and cliffs which can be explored during this tour. This 5-6 hours’ drive involves having a lunch stop at Mbale Town before proceeding to the place of stay (Sipi Falls Rest Camp or the Sipi River Lodge).

Day 2: The Kapkwai Trail

Just like other mountains, hiking this volcano also involves having a hefty breakfast and heading to the Park Headquarters or briefing point (in this case the Kapkwai Exploration Center) with packed lunch, drinking water, walking stick and backpack for a briefing. This invigorating hike involves using the Bamboo trail and traversing the River and southern edge of the gorge. Go back to the Lodge after the hike for rest and relaxation. Dinner and overnight is at Sipi Falls Rest Camp or the Sipi River Lodge and the meal plan is full board.

Day 3: The Sasa Trail

Unlike the previous day, the Sasa trail is an all-day hike rewarding hikers with the jaw-dropping views of the undulating landscapes and moorland vegetation. You will have a picnic lunch before descending to the place of stay. Overnight is at Sipi Falls Rest Camp or the Sipi River Lodge and the meal plan is full board.

Day 4: Brief nature walk and departure

Breakfast will be enjoyed at the Lodge/Camp before continuing for a short forest walk and finally departing to Kampala for your return flight.
