Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Travel from Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, meet your safari/driver guide who will give you a warm welcome and later, he will give you insight into what your 5 days wildlife and gorilla safari in Kenya and Rwanda are about. After, you will embark on a 5 to 6 hours’ journey to Masai Mara National Reserve. En-route, enjoy the breathtaking sceneries of the East African rift valley. Relax, dine and spend a night at the lodge.

Day 2: Game drive and cultural tour

Have breakfast early in the morning and later, meet the safari guide who then will take you through Masai Mara National Reserve for you enjoy your game drive. On a game, drive expect to see African bush elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, rhinos, wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, Masai giraffes, reedbuck, elands, impalas, hyenas, black-backed jackals, topis and many birds. You will also head to Masai River where you will witness the great wildebeest migration and also spot out crocodiles, hippos. Retreat from your exciting game viewing experience to refresh at the lodge, have lunch and in the afternoon, you will embark on a game shortly and later, visit the Maasai village.

Day 3: Drive back to Nairobi and fly to Kigali International Airport; drive to Volcanoes National Park

Check out of the lodge after breakfast and meet the company representative ready to make a return journey to Nairobi to catch up with the flights to Kigali International Airport. Arrive early and drive to Volcanoes National Park which is approximately 110kms. Check-in at the lodge of your choice for relaxation, dinner and a night stay.

Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking and a visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village

Have a wonderful day with an early morning breakfast and later, with your packed lunch plus bottled drinking water, gather at Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing on the set guidelines which you have to observe on a gorilla trek. You will also be assigned to a gorilla family to trek and Volcanoes National Park has ten habituated families. Each group is trekked by 8 visitors and the whole adventure takes about 2-6 hours depending on your speed of hiking, where the gorillas are and the nature of the habitat. Once you locate mountain gorillas, you only one hour of face to face encounters with them. Retreat thereafter to relax and in the evening, pay a visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for exciting and a memorable cultural experience. Dinner and a night stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Return to Kigali

Wake up to have breakfast and later, check out of the lodge then drive to Kigali. Arrive early and embark on a quick city tour in Kigali for you to visit the Kigali genocide site and other nearby sites, local markets. The driver-guide will transfer you to Kigali International Airport for you to catch up with your flight back home.
