Detailed itinerary of 10 days Uganda Gorilla and wildlife safari

Day 1: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park.

You will be met and greeted by our professional driver/guide before driving to Uganda’s first and naturally endowed National Park found in the north-western side of the country. This 5-6 hours’ journey involved transversing several magnificent attractions and sites as well as stopovers including Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to see some of Uganda’s surviving Rhino population. Continue with the journey and have another stopover at Masindi Town for a mouth-watering meal (lunch) and arrive in the afternoon.  Proceed for the hike to the top of the breathtaking falls. Dinner and overnight is at Chobe Safari Lodge for luxury, Heritage Safari Lodge for mid-range or Red Chilli Rest Camp for budget and the meal plan is lunch and dinner.

Day 2: Game viewing and afternoon boat cruise.

Wake up early for breakfast to participate in the game drive to spot four of the big five animals (buffaloes, elephants, lions and leopards), Uganda kobs, giraffes, bushbucks, waterbucks, Oribis, elands, Topis, warthogs and many others.

After 2-3 hours of this activity, go back to the Lodge for lunch and continue for the breathtaking Nile boat cruise. While here, you will be amazed by the large basks of giant Nile crocodiles, hippos and aquatic bird species such as the pelicans. Dinner and overnight is at Chobe Safari Lodge for upmarket, Heritage Safari Lodge for mid-range or Red Chilli Rest Camp for budget and the meal plan is full board.

Day 3: Drive to Kibale Forest National Park

Enjoy breakfast and start your 5-6 hours’ journey to Kibale Forest National Park through the phenomenal Albertine Escarpments while enjoying the jaw-dropping views of the countryside and verdant vegetation. Have lunch in Hoima Town and arrive to Kibale Forest National Park in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight is at Primate Safari Lodge for luxury, Chimps Nest Lodge for mid-range or Chimpanzee Guesthouse for budget and the meal plan is full board.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking and nature walk within the Bigodi wetland Sanctuary.

After breakfast, converge at Kanyanchu Visitor Center at 7:00am for a briefing before entering the jungles of Kibale Forest to search for the allocated Chimpanzee community. After 2-3 hours of tracking, you will find the chimpanzees feeding, playing and grooming. Take their photos and after one hour, you will return for the Lodge for lunch. However besides the chimpanzees, expect to spot a number of primate species during the trek such as the olive baboons, L’Hoests monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and many others. Also several bird species, butterflies and tree species will be identified.

Later in the afternoon you will continue to Bigodi wetland Sanctuary to spot at least 6 species of primates and a number of wetland bird species including the great blue turaco as well as the Papyrus Gonolek among others. Return to Primate Safari Lodge (luxury), Chimps Nest Lodge (midrange) or Chimpanzee Guesthouse (budget) for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and evening game drive.

Have breakfast and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and arrive in the afternoon for lunch and check-in the Lodge. Have an evening game drive where you will get a chance to see the nocturnal mammals such as lions and leopards. Return to Mweya Safari Lodge (luxury), Enganzi Safari Lodge (midrange) or Simba Safari Camp (budget) for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Morning game drive and boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel

Enjoy an early morning breakfast and head for a game drive where you will encounter the African lions, hyenas and leopards returning from a hunt as well as the buffaloes, Uganda kobs, Topis, Elephants, bushbucks, Defassa waterbucks and warthogs grazing within the vast plains. The game drive also allows you to spot at least 200 of the 600 bird species found in the Park. After this amazing 2-3 hours’ activity, head back to the Lodge for lunch and relaxation as you prepare to go for the afternoon boat cruise.

The boat cruise along Kazinga Channel rewards you with the views of the large Hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes and Uganda Kobs along the banks of the Channel in addition to several bird species. Dinner and overnight is at Mweya Safari Lodge for upmarket, Enganzi Game Lodge for midrange or Simba Safari Camp for budget while the meal plan is full board.

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

After your breakfast, you will be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the spectacular savannah plains and Ishasha sector to see the magnificent tree climbing lions, and buffaloes, elephants and Uganda Kobs grazing. En-route lunch will be at Savannah Resort Hotel (Kihihi) and arrival at the Park is in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight is at Buhoma Lodge for luxury, Engagi Lodge for midrange or Buhoma Community Rest Camp for budget while the meal plan is full board.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking and cultural tour (optional).

Have a heavy breakfast and converge at the Park Headquarters at 7:00am for briefing Transfer to the starting point and start the trek at 8:00am for the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat characterized by thick forest covered by mist. Trekking lasts 2-4 hours and once spotted, you will spend only one hour with the allocated gorilla family to study their behavior and take memorable photos. Descend to the starting point and be driven to the Lodge for lunch.

If time still allows or if you are still energetic, head for a cultural walk to Batwa villages Dinner and overnight is at Silverback Lodge (luxury), Engagi Lodge (midrange) or Buhoma Community Rest Camp (budget) and the meal plan is full board.

Day 9: Drive to Kampala.

Have breakfast and check out of the Lodge and depart for Kampala. Have a lunch stop in Mbarara Town and arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight at Sheraton Hotel (luxury), Le Petit Village Boutique Hotel (midrange) or Nexus Resort (budget).

Day 10: City tour and departure.

After breakfast, have a city tour visiting the Uganda Museum, Craft markets and Kasubi Tombs and transfer to Entebbe for your departure flight.
