Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is set in Southwestern Uganda and getting here can take you about 8-9 hours depending on the route and the driver’s speed. This national park was gazetted in 1991 and it occupies an area of about 331sq.km, consisting largely of an extensive tropical rain-forest. It hosts the largest population of mountain gorillas about half of all the remaining 1004 individuals on earth. Other wildlife species that thrive in Bwindi include chimpanzees, elephants, L’Hoest monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, giant forest hogs, African golden cat, stripped jackal, and over 360 bird species, 220 butterfly species, reptiles among others.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is the second largest of all Uganda’s national parks with an area of about 1978sq.km, comprising largely of humid forests, savanna grassland, fertile wetlands, and others. This national park is located in Kasese, Bushenyi and Bundibugyo districts. It was gazetted in 1952 and derives its name from the queen of England-the Elizabeth the second. It inhabits four of the big five African game-buffaloes, elephants, leopards, lions as well as over 620 bird species, warthogs, antelopes among others. Day 1: Drive from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Meet your safari leader after your cup of tea or coffee and later, he will brief about what you should expect on the 4 days Bwindi gorilla and wildlife safari. Later, you will be transferred from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda, approximately 6 hours’ drive. Take the Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara route such that you make a stopover at Uganda Equator crossing and have lunch at Igongo cultural center. Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park to take part in a launch/boat cruise via the Kazinga Channel which lets you catch a glimpse at hippos, crocodiles, water birds.

Day 2: Morning game drive and leave Queen for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your morning game drive begins with breakfast at the lodge and later, you will set off via Kasenyi Plains for 3-4 hours game viewing experience. On a game drive, expect to see the diversity of wildlife species including among others the African bush elephants, leopards, buffaloes, warthogs, hyenas, lions, antelopes like Uganda Kobs, birds and many more. Return to check out and then drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park along the Ishasha area with a chance for you to catch a glimpse at the tree-climbing lions. Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After preparation and your morning breakfast, transfer from your lodge to Buhoma, Nshongi, Rushaga or Nkuringo region for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines and to be assigned a gorilla family. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is comprised of about 20 habituated families but only one will be assigned to you to track in a group of 8 trekkers. Along the way, you will come across several primates, birds, butterflies, plants that are of medicinal importance.

On finding your gorilla group, you have only 1 hour of a face to face encounter. Trekking mountain gorillas may take you 2-6 hours depending on your speed of hiking, where they are found and the nature of the habitat. Retreat from your adventure to relax and spend the remaining hours exploring the Batwa cultural experience.
